[LC] Ladies and gentlemen, how do you do?
I’m gonna show you a trick or two.
Let’s bring out Jim, and write his name.
Let’s take his hat, and do the same.
What can we add to the name of Jim,
To show that his hat belongs to him?
Do you know? Well, take a guess.
It’s good old apostrophe “s”!
[LC, SH] Apostrophe “s”. Apostrophe “s”.
It shows the things that we possess.
[LC] Jim’s hat. Jim’s hat.
The hat is Jim’s, and that’s that.
Here comes Mary with a great big pie.
Oops! She dropped it. My, oh, my.
Write Mary’s name quite carefully,
And then write “pie” where it should be.
Mary has a pie, so if we were
To show that this pie belongs to her,
What should we add? Well, nothing less
Than good old apostrophe “s”.
[LC, JG] Apostrophe “s”. Apostrophe “s”.
It shows the things that we possess.
[LC] Mary’s pie. Mary’s pie.
Okay, Mary. Goodbye!
What should you use when your purpose is
To show that a thing is hers or his?
I guarantee you’ll have success
With good old apostrophe “s”.
Guarantee you’ll have success
With good old apostrophe, good old apostrophe “s”.
